‘Soldier’ in Kenya outing

It seems like the demand for the art of legendary contemporary artist Lucius ‘Soldier’ Banda is refusing to wane.

While he announced that he was slowing down the tracks of his long-lived career after the release of his 20th and final album Love And Hate in October 2022, it would appear he is far from stopping.

At the time Lucius said: “I will only do shows that I deem important. Especially corporate events. Maybe two or three times a year.” 

But contrary to his wish then, his schedule has looked a little busier than expected.

Arts and music commentator Wonderful Mkhutche said the artist has flirted with the idea of retiring for long and people know he is in the twilight stages of his career; hence, the demand.

“These are the signs that he is slowly leaving active music and music lovers would like to have a piece of him before he completely leaves the stage,” he said. 

This Saturday, the Tina creator is set to perform in Kenya at the invitation of a group of Malawians living in Kenya comprising students and expatriates.

The performance will take place at the Malawi Cultural Centre at the Malawi High Commission in Nairobi. According to the artist, the show has not only attracted Malawians, but also Zambians, Zimbabweans and Kenyans.

“It is a very anticipated show. It means so much to me as well because it has coincided with the birthday of my wife on Wednesday whom I have travelled with. The music lovers should expect a powerful show because I have also come here to impress,” he said in an interview yesterday from Nairobi, Kenya.

‘Soldier’ said he always sees himself as a pioneer and fellow artists should realise that there is also a market for local music in east Africa.
